Nike made Alex Ovechkin a personal logo shortly after the hockey star signed an endorsement deal with the company eight years ago. Since then, the company has sporadically sold gear with the logo on it. Shirts, hoodies, and hats were available in limited quantities at the Capitals Team Store, Verizon Center, and the Capitals Convention in 2013. Fanatics also sold Nike MVP shirts after the Capitals won the Stanley Cup in 2018 – some of which were made available at local DMV ice rinks. Wednesday, eight individual items featuring Alex Ovechkin’s Nike logo were made available on a website operated by Athlete Performance Solutions, a global licensee of Nike.

The Washington Post’s Scott Allen was the first to post about the opening of the new Ovechkin store. Allen reports that the Capitals captain was involved in the design process and the gear is available to fans in the United States, Canada, and Russia.

“He’s exceptionally proud of it,” David Abrutyn, Ovechkin’s longtime agent, said. “He certainly enjoys the creative parts of these things. Nike doesn’t design logos for every athlete, but for the iconic ones they do. For Ovi, they wanted something that would be universal and stand the test of time, and this one has.”

The Ovechkin store features two shirts, two hats, one fleece hoodie, and one long-sleeved shirt which features a pattern of eight’s inside the personal logo.

The cost ranges from $28 to $55 and new merch will be added in the coming months.

The Ovechkin store notes that “this collection is available for a limited time and each item will made at the time of the order. As such shipping times may be a little longer than normal.”
