Brett Leason’s first AHL goal was an OTGWG on Teddy Bear Toss Night

It took 20 games, but Capitals’ second-round pick Brett Leason finally scored his first AHL goal of this career. And it came in one of the biggest games of the Hershey Bears season: Teddy Bear Toss Night.

Leason scored the overtime game-winning goal and tallied the first three-point game of his professional career against the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Leason overtime tally was thanks to a brilliant zone entry by defenseman Christian Djoos who hit the Caps prospect with speed down the wing. Leason went in alone on goaltender Adam Huska. After Huska made an initial save, Leason beat him with his own rebound.

After the game, Leason posed with the milestone puck.

Leason also assisted on Beck Malenstyn’s third-period goal and Shane Gersich’s second-period goal which helped push overtime. The 2019 draft pick had a strong start during the Capitals preseason but has since cooled down since joining Hershey, tallying only two assists in his previous 19 games.

But the six-foot, four-inch Calgary native has great hands and speed. It seems as if it’s only a matter of time before Brett starts breaking out more consistently.
