TJ Oshie scored two minutes and 14 seconds into overtime to give the Capitals a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over the Arizona Coyotes. It was the Osh Babe’s second goal of the night and came minutes after his game-tying goal late in the third period. Except, there was a problem.
On the play, as Lars Eller tried to carry the puck into the offensive zone, the Tiger fell over at the blue line. It may have thrown TJ Oshie offside. Uh oh.
So the NHL’s Situation Room initiated a review of the goal, pouring through all their fancy replay angles to see if Oshie entered the O-zone before the puck completely crossed the blue line.
After celebrating with his teammates, which included a large pig pile of hockey players jumping up and down in tandem, Oshie returned to the Capitals bench and suddenly realized what was happening.
As the seconds turned to minutes, Oshie went from confident to skeptical. And he wore the emotion on his face.

The replays were all so close, a tortured Oshie closed and re-opened his eyes. He looked around as if he knew he carried off A Great Heist and was hoping no one noticed.
Unfortunately for Oshie, his OT heroics went for naught. He entered the offensive zone a few tenths of a second before the puck, negating the goal. The Capitals would lose later in the shootout, which ended their winning streak at six games.

But if you ask me, we all still won because we got to witness one of the most priceless hockey faces of all-time. Never change, Teej.
More from the NHL:
Challenge Initiated By: Situation Room
Type of Challenge: Off-side
Result: Original call is overturned – No Goal Washington
Explanation: It was determined that Washington’s T.J. Oshie was in an off-side position prior to his goal. According to Rule 38.9, “The standard for overturning the call in the event of a “GOAL” call on the ice is that the NHL Situation Room, after reviewing any and all available replays and consulting with the On-Ice Official(s), determines that one or more Players on the attacking team preceded the puck into the attacking zone prior to the goal being scored and that, as a result, the play should have been stopped for an “Off-Side” infraction; where this standard is met, the goal will be disallowed.”
NOTE: In the final minute of play in the third period and at any point in Overtime (Regular Season and Playoffs), Hockey Operations will initiate the review of any scenario that would otherwise be subject to a Coach’s Challenge.
