Protas was part of the Raiders team that won the Ed Chynoweth Cup during the 2017-18 season. During the Raiders’ run to the Cup, Protas contributed 12 goals and 11 assists. Protas also leads the Raiders in scoring for the 2018-19 season with six goals and eight assists through nine games.
The Washington Capitals drafted Protas in the third round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Capitals over the summer.
Protas was a standout player during the Capitals’ Development Camp and also the 2019-20 pre-season, where he was named first star for the Caps’ first game after tallying a goal and two assists, including on Tom Wilson’s game-winner.
“Man, they played unbelievable,” Wilson said then of Protas and the Capitals’ other promising young prospect Connor McMichael. “I’d go down the list, but I’d be scared to leave somebody out because there were so many of them that played well. I think they carried us for the most part. Obviously, [Protas] and I thought McMichael, they all had pretty strong games.”
