On Tuesday the St. Louis Blues accepted President Trump’s invitation to visit the White House in recognition of their 2019 Stanley Cup Championship. President Trump spoke on the White House lawn in front of assorted media and politicians, posed for photos with the team, and received a personalized jersey and putter from the team owner and captain.
In a 25-minute speech, President Trump detailed the Blues’ journey to the Cup. He also surprised key players like Jordan Binnington, Brayden Schenn, and Alex Pietrangelo with some time on the microphone to say a few words.
President Trump’s congratulatory speech also covered impeachment, negotiations with Turkey, and the status of the United States’ relationship with China.

“By and large, we like to keep politics and sports separate,” Stillman said in a piece by Chris Pinkert for NHL.com, “and this is a matter of a traditional honor. We were invited to the White House by the president, and it’s something you do. I’m really proud of our group for all coming together and we had a good time with it as well.”
After a championship parade, #StanleyCup Tour, ring ceremony, @HockeyHallFame visit and a banner-raising on Opening Night, there was only one celebration left — a trip to the @WhiteHouse on the invitation of @realDonaldTrump. https://t.co/jOdx7m0eBc
