Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin turned 34 years-old on Tuesday but celebrated his birthday with his family, friends, and teammates the very next night.
Ovechkin had a large private dinner after the Capitals defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-2 in a very nice win at Capital One Arena. Ovechkin and his wife Nastya posted videos to their Instagram Story of the moment when Ovi was given a birthday cake. He smiled sheepishly as everyone sang him Happy Birthday in Russian.
Ovechkin’s cake had four candles and was topped with white icing and flourishes of chocolate.
The Great 8 was joined at the restaurant by Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov, and Ilya Samsonov.
Later they took a photo together. Ovechkin, Orlov, and Samsonov put up their fists towards Kuznetsov, perhaps to show solidarity to their fellow countryman.
On the 17th, Ovechkin received birthday balloons and a surprise visit from his one-year-old son Sergei at Capitals practice. His birthday also marked the official release of his first-ever cereal Ovi O’s.
