Ovi Jr surprises Alex Ovechkin at practice with Happy Birthday balloons, taps on the glass

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin turned 34 on Tuesday and he got an extra cute birthday surprise at the Caps practice facility.

One-year-old Sergei Ovechkin was at MedStar Capitals Iceplex with mom, Nastya, to watch the Blue Group’s Training Camp session. Wearing a Capitals baby jersey emblazoned with Ovi Jr and the number 8 on the back, Sergei held up a Happy Birthday balloon along the glass – one of three balloons the family brought to the rink.

I’m not even sure adorable is big enough of a word to describe this, but let’s go with that.

Towards the end of the Training Camp session, Dad came over to greet son in a memorable moment along the boards. Ovi hit the glass with his right glove as Ovi Jr. eventually tapped back.

And while it was Ovi’s birthday, Sergei didn’t leave MedStar without a gift himself: his very own practice puck.

At the end of practice, the Capitals gave Ovi loud stick taps on the ice.

Ovi then met with Ovi Jr. and his adoring fans.

What a morning.
