Dmitry Orlov was back in DC only days before training camp because his cat’s veterinary paperwork got held up

Dmitry Orlov has returned to Washington DC and is one of the final players back this year.

The Russian defenseman was spotted out on the ice by RMNB reader Miranda, taking part in the team’s informal practice Tuesday morning.

In years past, Orlov has been one of the first players back in Arlington to workout ahead of training camp. But this year was much more complicated.

Orlov’s wife Varvara gave birth to their first child, Kirill, in late June. Then there was a snafu with the couple’s pet.

“We needed to resolve some issues with my cat,” Orlov said to Sport-Express late last week as translated by Igor Kleyner. “Just some formal paperwork from the vet to allow him to fly with me.”

Orlov was asked if cat requires any meds to keep him calm when flying.

“No, he has no problems flying,” Orlov said. “He is very calm and kind. Just like me!”

Despite his issues with veterinary red tape, Orlov has had a very active summer with his personal trainer Sergey Gvozdev and he has the Instagram videos to prove it.

Orly was joined by the Devils forward Nikita Gusev and Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev at times during his training. And you guys, these one-legged jumps hurt me just from watching them.

While in Russia, Orlov also had some personal jewelry made.

But thankfully, the summer is over. Kitty and Orly are back at home with Varvara and baby boy Kirill.
