Tom Wilson filmed a commercial for WMATA in mid-June at Metro’s Greenbelt Railyard. Metro teased Capitals fans with photos then, but on Wednesday, the 30-second clip finally began airing on Metro trains.
In the clip, Wilson plays off his penchant for protecting his teammates on the ice by preaching vigilance on Metro trains.

“What’s up, DC. This is Tom Wilson,” said Tom Wilson. “When I’m on the ice, it’s my job to pay attention to everything going on around me. Being a good teammate means looking out for one another on and off the ice. I’m pretty vigilant and it’s important for you to be the same on Metro. If you see something on a train or bus that doesn’t look right – like a strange package or unattended bag – report it right away.
“Let’s work together, let’s keep Metro safe,” Wilson added while seated on a 7000-series railcar. “If you see something, say something.”
In the clip, passengers look stunned as a clean-shaven Wilson gets on board the train. Several passengers stare at Wilson. Another takes video of the right wing behind his back. Towards the end of the commercial, a Capitals fan starts digging in her large bag. Oh no! What does she have? Oh. It’s a replica Stanley Cup and she asks Wilson to sign it. Wilson obliges.
The video was first reported by Capitals fan and RMNB reader Liz. “It was a real nice surprise to see on my long commute back home,” she said in a message.

The Metro cameo continues Wilson’s broadening marketing portfolio that includes work for Philips, Paisano’s Pizza, and Sport Chevrolet. He was also one of the featured speakers at Fanatics’ Stanley Cup Chalk Talk and has done autograph signings for Giant Food. Wilson is an investor of the local boxing studio, BASH, and does digital marketing and influencer work for them as well.
