All tied up: Hurricanes beat Caps 2-1

The Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes were due to do battle once more in Game Four of this Eastern Conference first round playoff matchup. The surging, suffocating Canes blew the Caps out of Raleigh on Monday night and looked to do the same again Thursday night.

Warren Foegele stayed hot and scored again for Carolina only 17 seconds into the first period. Alex Ovechkin tied things before Teuvo Teravainen answered with a backbreaking late second period goal.

The series is now tied at two games apiece as we head back to DC for Game Five.

    Hurricanes beat Caps 2-1.

    • The Caps got scored on 17 seconds into the game. That’s probably worst case scenario. Lots of people on Twitter thought the Caps controlled the game after the Canes goal. I am not one of those people. Petr Mrazek stopped Brett Connolly from the high slot, but that was about it. You can control the puck all you want, it’s creating goal scoring opportunities that is the hard part.
    • I’m still confused as to why Alex Ovechkin has been turned into a villain for winning a fight between two consenting adults that was fully within the constraints of NHL hockey.
    • I’m getting real tired of Warren Foegele scoring every game, mainly because I have to copy and paste his last name from Twitter because what kind of spelling mess is that.
    • I miss Michal Kempny and whatever happened to 2017-18 Evgeny Kuznetsov. Can we put the latter on some milk cartons?

    • What in my eyes was an even period mixed in with a successful Capitals power play, was entirely ruined by Carolina scoring with less than 30 seconds left in the frame. That just cant happen and it was the turning point in this game and potentially the series.
    • Just watch Brooks Orpik on that goal. Just watch him. Time for greener pastures fella.
    • Nino Niederreiter is one of the most underrated players in the league and is a perfect fit on this Carolina team. Fantastic pickup from Canes general manager Don Waddell.
    • Petr Mrazek is having a breakout series. Brick wall.

    • Caps were clueless in the third. Their defensemen passed the puck to the other team more than their own team.
    • That was a five minute major and the refs barely gave them two minutes. Lets hope TJ is okay, doesn’t look good.
    • Valiant effort to get it tied at the end. I guess.
    • Y’all, I miss DSP.

Going back to DC in what has to be a must win from the Caps in Game Five. The saying goes that a team is never truly in trouble in a playoffs series until they lose at home.
