Micheal Ferland was ejected in the second period for an illegal check to the head of Nic Dowd, but he may not be the Carolina Hurricanes’ player that’s in hot water after the game.
During the second intermission, NBC analysts Jeremy Roenick and Eddie Olczyk both went on the record saying Hamilton should be suspended by the Department of Player Safety for an elbow to the head of Evgeny Kuznetsov.
Update, Sunday, 2:00 PM: Chris Kuc of The Athletic says Hamilton will not face additional discipline.

And Micheal Ferland did take a good angle and hit through Nic Dowd’s body without head contact.

The play happened during the second period.
“The hit Dougie Hamilton had on Kuznetsov is way more of a problem for me (than the Ferland hit) because when you’re hitting, you keep your elbow next to your body,” Roenick said. “Watch Dougie Hamilton’s elbow come up and target the head. That is a clear blatant attempt to injure on a hit that should have just been run right into the boards.”
Hamilton was given a two-minute minor penalty for elbowing.
Liam McHugh asked if Hamilton should be suspended.
“It’s definitely [a suspendable hit],” Roenick replied.
“No question,” Olczyk said.
“No question. That is head contact,” Roenick continued. “That is intent to injure. That is a high elbow. It’s a flying throwing elbow. No question.”
Olczyk believed Hamilton would receive a one-game suspension and miss Game Three.
“For me, the referees have not gotten this right and a lot of different situations in this game,” Roenick said.
Hamilton, 25, is a first-pairing defender for the Canes and averages 20 minutes of ice time per game.
