Buried in the press release that defenseman Bobby Nardella signed an ATO with the Hershey Bears, another Caps defender will be making his way to the Bears.
2018 first-round pick Alexander Alexeyev has been reassigned to the Bears from the Red Deer Rebels to rehab a knee injury.
Alexeyev’s injury occurred in March after a knee-on-knee collision, and he was spotted wearing a knee brace after he was stretchered off the ice.

The injury put a damper on what had been a solid season for the defenseman. Alexeyev scored 43 points in 49 games for Red Deer, but missed a total of 19 games due to injury.
Alexeyev also showed out during his time with Russia’s World Junior team, winning a bronze medal and finishing the tournament with two goals and four assists, including this ankle-breaking deke against Slovakia.
Earlier this season, Alexeyev signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Capitals in September. Once healthy, it’s likely he’ll follow Nardella’s path and sign an amateur tryout contract with Hershey.
More from the Bears:
Additionally, defenseman Alexander Alexeyev has been assigned to Hershey by the Washington Capitals from the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League. Alexeyev, the Capitals 1st Round selection in the 2018 NHL Draft, will rehab an injury with the Bears. Alexeyev has been assigned #41 while Nardella will wear #32.
