Capitals 2018 first-round pick Alex Alexeyev was recently photographed walking again after suffering a scary knee-on-knee collision March 8 that necessitated him being carted off on a stretcher.
Alexeyev was honored before puck drop on Tuesday as the Red Deer Advocate’s Male Athlete of the Year. Alexeyev was wearing a knee brace as he accepted the award.
The Red Deer Rebels have listed Alexeyev’s condition as a “week-to-week” lower-body injury on WHL’s weekly report.
Alexeyev’s left leg is almost completely covered by the brace.

Recently, video of the knee-on-knee collision was uploaded to Twitter and it does not look good.

The Red Deer Rebels secured the second Eastern Conference wildcard spot in the WHL playoffs, but they will surely be missing Alexeyev, who put up a remarkable 43 points in 49 games before going down injured against the Brandon Wheat Kings. No timeline has been given for his return.
Alexeyev was also honored last week with his team’s Top Defenseman Award for the 2018-19 season.
