Last Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Alex Ovechkin notched his 50th and 51st goals, becoming only the third player to score eight 50 goal seasons.
To commemorate the occasion, Sportsnet takes us down memory lane in a supercut of every 50th goal Ovi has scored. Each one is more magical than the next.

Lets break every beautiful goal down.
2005-06 season
The first comes against the now-defunct Atlanta Thrashers in the 2005-06 season from his now-patented Ovi Shot from the Ovi Spot. Little did we know there would be many more of those same goals to come.
2007-08 season
The second 50th goal, from Ovi’s third season in the league, features a beautiful Nicklas Backstrom stretch pass between two Boston Bruins defenders. Ovi dekes, then roofs it while the two Bruins careen into goalie Tim Thomas.
2008-09 season
That’s right, 2019 wasn’t the first time Ovi scored his milestone 50th of the season against the Lightning. In 2008-09, Ovechkin hit 50 again, this time accompanied by his famous “stick-on-fire” celebration.
2009-10 season
The Thrashers were victims again for Ovi’s fourth 50 goal season in 2009-10. Ovi cuts to the middle of the ice and Alex Semin feeds him a pass. Ovechkin rips the puck past Backstrom who’s driving to the net.
2013-14 season
For this fifth 50 goal season, we get another Ovi Shot from the Ovi Spot, this time against the St. Louis Blues.
2014-15 season
Against the Carolina Hurricanes, fellow Russian Evgeny Kuznetsov feeds Ovechkin the puck and he grips it and rips it.
2015-16 season
The Blues were plagued by Ovi’s goal scoring prowess again, this time as victims of a 3-on-1 featuring TJ Oshie and Nicklas Backstrom. Oshie feeds the puck across to Ovi for a one-timer, and there’s nothing the Blues can do about it.
2018-19 season
Ovi’s most recent iteration of 50 included bowling over Brayden Coburn while receiving a spin-o-rama pass from Oshie at the half wall.
