The Washington Capitals have clinched a spot in the 2018-19 Stanley Cup playoffs.
This is the fifth consecutive year that the team has made the postseason. The Capitals sealed their own fate with a 3-2 regulation win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, one of the two possible clinch scenarios going into the night.
Let’s celebrate!
This is also the fifth consecutive year that the Capitals have recorded 100 points, which is a new record for the franchise but also only the 10th time in NHL history that the feat has been accomplished. The Capitals are also the NHL team with the longest active 100-point streak.
The Capitals are the first team in the Metropolitan division to secure their spot in the postseason. The rest of the division is close enough that there’s still no clear first-round opponent for the Caps, so we’ll have to wait and see.
BUT WOOOO! WE’RE BACK IN THE DANCE!
