Tom Wilson just did something some fans never thought he would accomplish.
#FirstLineTom joined the 20-goal club for the very first time in his young career. He did it in only 52 games.
After an offensive zone faceoff win by Evgeny Kuznetsov, the Capitals controlled the forecheck in the Flyers zone. A deflected Wilson pass eventually bounces out to Dmitry Orlov at the point. Instead of shooting, Orly fires a slap pass to Evgeny Kuznetsov in the right circle. Kuzy somehow catches this pass and opts for one more, finding Wilson in the high slot.
With Flyers goaltender Carter Hart wildly out of position, Wilson buries Kuznetsov’s pass into the empty net.
The goal gave the Caps a 4-1 lead and was Wilson’s 16th even-strength goal of the year. Wilson’s previous career high in goals was 14, which he hit last season.
“It’s obviously nice, pretty special feeling,” Wilson said of hitting 20 goals. “I couldn’t of done it without some pretty good passing and some pretty good teammates and linemates. They made that easy.”
Wilson accomplished the feat despite missing the first quarter of the season due to suspension. He also scored despite being butt-ended by Sean Couturier in the first period.
Congratulations, Tom.
