Fish are foes, not food: Caps beat Sharks 5-1

The Washington Capitals began the western swing of their six game road trip in San Jose for a nice Valentine’s Day date with Jumbo Joe and the Sharks.

Kevin Labanc opened scoring on the evening, before goals from TJ Oshie and Jakub Vrana flipped the scoreline in favor of the Caps. Alex Ovechkin extended that lead to two in the second and Oshie’s second of the evening followed shortly after that.

Tom Wilson with an empty netter.

    Caps beat Sharks 5-1!

    • The first period didn’t start out all that great for the Caps, but they quickly grew into it and came out on top after all was said and done. The first twenty minutes was played at an almost insane pace and the Caps were the surprising drivers of that pace. Great first frame on the road.
    • It’s #RMNBAfterDark for this one, so you’re going to be lucky to get 20-percent of this total recap about the actual hockey game.
    • Happy Valentine’s Day to all those celebrating and to all those who are not, just think about all the money you’re saving.

    • Caps third goal was some textbook offense from their top line. Great entry with speed from Tom Wilson, an individual move to create space from Evgeny Kuznetsov, and the easy finish from the GOAT, Alex Ovechkin.
    • Good morning…? It’s the next day. It’s tomorrow…or I guess today. This game was played on two days and it’s real late, folks.
    • Joonas Donskoi is one of my favorite players in the NHL and that’s 80-percent based on the fact that he sounds like he belongs in Star Wars. I guess that’s probably the case for like a majority of Finnish names though.
    • The Sharks get to skate out of a giant shark head with teeth and all at every home game. I want one of those just at my front door. That would make mornings a lot more exciting.

    • Caps did a hell of a job in the third limiting the Sharks chances at even thinking of staging a comeback. Great stuff.
    • Jakub Vrana was unreal in this one. Goal, assist, and two drawn penalties. His linemate on the evening, TJ Oshie was also superb as he recorded his 500th career point after a three point effort.
    • Just a thought here, little brainstorm session. Maybe it would be a good idea to come up with an alternative to the slingshot entry on the power play if its not open?
    • Dare I say…good disciplined game from the Caps? Maybe they’ve finally gotten the message.
    • Braden Holtby was great, per usual.

Caps now get a couple days off before heading to Anaheim to play the Ducks in another west coast late start. California is normally very unkind to the good guys and that sucks because California is kinda dope.
