The Washington Capitals answered their horrendous performance in Columbus with a much better effort in San Jose, taking down the Sharks 5-1. The team started off the western swing portion of their six game road trip in a good way.
The Caps out-shot the Sharks 29 to 26.

The Washington Capitals have only won seven of their last 19 games and were coming off one of their worst efforts of the season, a 3-0 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Thursday in San Jose, the Capitals came out with more energy, more discipline, and more defensive stoutness in a location they have historically stunk in. Riding three points from TJ Oshie, the Caps dispatched the Sharks 5-1 at SAP Center.
“I think [the difference] was our energy,” Oshie said. “Even on the bench, it seems like guys were up. We’re feeling good. We’re talking to each other. We’re letting guys know [when guys make good plays]. It’s been fun.”
To say the Capitals were pumped about their win against the Sharks would be a massive understatement. To celebrate, the team blasted 2pac and Dr.Dre’s mega-hit, California Love as players walked into the locker room.
Alex Ovechkin scored his 39th goal of the season in the Capitals’ 5-1 win over the San Jose Sharks, Thursday.
Ovechkin now leads second-place goalscorers, Patrick Kane and Jeff Skinner, by five goals with 24 games remaining in the season.
As a member of the US Olympic Team, TJ Oshie became a household name and even got a shoutout from Barack Obama after beating Russia singlehandedly in the shootout during the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
Friday, just to stay on brand, TJ Oshie reached the 500-point milestone by scoring on a breakaway.
The goal was Oshie’s second tally and third point on the evening against the San Jose Sharks. The Caps would win 5-1.

The Washington Capitals began the western swing of their six game road trip in San Jose for a nice Valentine’s Day date with Jumbo Joe and the Sharks.
Kevin Labanc opened scoring on the evening, before goals from TJ Oshie and Jakub Vrana flipped the scoreline in favor of the Caps. Alex Ovechkin extended that lead to two in the second and Oshie’s second of the evening followed shortly after that.

A late Valentine’s Day scrum is the perfect way to end your date night! The Capitals are on the West Coast playing the Sharks this evening. This is gonna be a tricky one for the Capitals, with the Sharks being the better team on paper, but it’s all about confidence. Or at least faking it until you make it. Stay positive.
Get a nap in, go for a jog, start the coffee machine, whatever you gotta do to stay awake because this puck is dropping at 10:30PM on NBCS Washington. Personally?
