The Anaheim Ducks celebrated the original Mighty Ducks with a ceremonial puck drop

This season is the 25th anniversary of the Anaheim Ducks franchise, and to celebrate the occasion, they’ve pulled out all the stops. The team currently wears “25” patches on their jerseys, they’ve busted out the old school Ducks uniforms, and the week from February 10-17 has been dubbed the “Silver Celebration Week,” which includes the retirement of Scott Niedermayer’s jersey.

The celebration wouldn’t be complete without the inspiration for the franchise, the original Mighty Ducks, from the three feature films.

Wednesday evening, the original Ducks helped drop the puck for the Anaheim Ducks game against the Vancouver Canucks on Mighty Ducks Trivia Night.

To promote the event, the Ducks filmed the actors in the classic “Flying V” formation.

The Mighty Ducks also got to play during the morning skate, and Mat Doherty, who plays Les Averman in the films, told Jay Beagle and the rest of the Canucks that if they were up or down three goals, they should try the “Flying V.”

The Canucks should’ve tried the “Flying V” regardless, because rookie goalie Kevin Boyle pulled out his best Julie “the Cat” Gaffney performance and recorded a shutout for the Ducks in his first NHL start.

Childhood feels: unlocked.
