Malenstyn was drafted by the Capitals in the fifth round, 145th overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft. During his 2018-19 season with Hershey, Malenstyn has put up four goals, four assists, and 48 penalty minutes in 43 games played.

The Bears would go on to win the matchup against the Phantoms, improving to 7-0-0-1 in their last eight games. Nathan Walker and Ryan Sproul tallied the goals for Hershey, and Russian goaltending prospect Ilya Samsonov stopped 21 of 22 shots he faced.
