Rod Rosenstein was at the Capitals-Sharks game

Over the last two years, Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has been investigated by the Special Counsel, headed by Robert Mueller, to find any possible links or coordination with the Russian government. I bring that fact up because the man behind the appointment of the Special Counsel, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, was at the Capitals game Wednesday night.

Several other Twitter users noticed Rosenstein at the game as well.

Rosenstein saw dual hat tricks between future hall of famer Alex Ovechkin and Sharks foward Tomas Hertl.

According to the New York Times, Rosenstein plans to step down as the United States’ number two law enforcement official after Mr. Trump’s nominee for attorney general, William Barr, is confirmed.

Rosenstein first became a national figure after drafting a memo providing the basis for President Trump to dismiss FBI Director James Comey. Eight days later, Rosenstein appointed the Special Counsel. Because Jeff Sessions was already recused from the Russia investigation, Rosenstein ended up overseeing the Special Counsel for nearly two years. In November, President Trump forced the recused Sessions to resign after the midterms, giving oversight of Mueller’s investigation to Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker.

The 54-year-old Rosenstein was nominated by George W. Bush to be U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland. Rosenstein served that role until February 1, 2017 when Trump appointed him DAG.
