Alex Ovechkin broke another record with his hat trick against the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday night. During a segment on NBC Sports afterward, Mike Milbury said he thinks Ovechkin “is the best goal scorer that ever laced on a pair of skates.”
Mike Milbury actually said that. Yes, that Mike Milbury.
The same guy who “just doesn’t like Russians.” The same guy who had the Blue Jackets winning the 2018 Stanley Cup. The same guy who said Ovechkin was “just a one-dimensional player” because all he does is score goals.
The video of the segment, the transcript of Milbury’s Ovechkin comments, and sweet sweet long-overdue justice are below.

Milbury’s Comments
I think he’s the best goal scorer that ever laced on a pair of skates, and that’s saying something. If he does finish with the best goal scoring total this year, he will have done it more than any other human being. He might need a new stylist for his hair, but he still can shoot the puck.
[Commentary on some highlight clips]He’s truck driver strong, he’s been doing it all of his career, he’s completed his process of growth, I think. Now I think he looks like he wants to do it again. I mean, this is a remarkably motivated athlete after a championship season, and the Washington Capitals are proving that they’re going to be a very tough out.
Milbury’s opinion about Ovechkin’s greatness is accurate, although his thoughts on Ovechkin’s hair are wrong–it’s looked much better lately–but we’ll let that slide this time.
In the words of Stanley Cup Champion and best goal scorer ever Alex Ovechkin: “I could care less about his opinion.”
