Alex Ovechkin breaks record for most career hat tricks by a Russian-born player with 21

Alex Ovechkin broke the NHL record for most career hat tricks by a Russian-born player in the Capitals’ 6-2 victory over the Red Wings Tuesday night.

Ovechkin passed Pavel Bure with his 21st career hat trick. It was Ovechkin’s first hatty of the season.

Ovechkin moved into a tie for the 12th most hat tricks in NHL history.

Ovechkin increased his season goal tally to 25. That gives Ovechkin the third longest streak of consecutive 25-plus goal seasons to start an NHL career (14) ever.

Ovi’s 25 goals now sit four goals ahead of the next closest player on the NHL this season. The Capitals’ captain is off to a career-best start at the age of 33 with 25 goals through 30 games played.
