Capitals forward Devante Smith-Pelly was unable to complete the Capitals-Islanders game after suffering a lower-body injury 1:52 into the first period.
DSP blocked an Islanders shot from the point and needed assistance getting off the ice.
Smith-Pelly went to one knee and blocked the shot from defenseman Scott Mayfield near his right ankle.
The Capitals forward needed a whistle to get off the ice and received some help from John Carlson and Michal Kempny to get to the bench.
Smith-Pelly would take four more shifts in the first period, receiving what appears to be normal time, but would only get two shifts in the second period.
During the second intermission, the Capitals announced that DSP had a lower-body injury and was questionable to return.

After the game, Todd Reirden commented on DSP’s injury.
“I think, for the most part, he should be all right,” Reirden said. “We’ll give it a day to settle down here. We’ll re-evaluate when we get back to DC when we get back with our own doctors. I’m hopeful he’ll be fine.”
The Capitals have three days before their next game – a Friday matchup against the New Jersey Devils at Capital One Arena.
