Travis Boyd injures Michal Kempny during goal celebration

Michal Kempny scored a huge third-period goal against the Detroit Red Wings. It marked his second goal in consecutive games.

Kempny’s reward? A trip down the tunnel to the locker room after getting headbutted by a celebrating teammate.

The play started when Travis Boyd found Kempny wide open at the point with a cross-ice pass. With Devante Smith-Pelly setting a screen on Red Wings goaltender Jonathan Bernier, Kempny ripped a shot that found the back of the net.

Here’s another look.

But everything went amok when a very excited Travis Boyd skated over to hug Kempny. The center violently headbutted the defenseman.

Kempny, bleeding from the face, immediately went down the tunnel for repairs.

He returned a few minutes later with a small bandage across his nose.

Kempny’s goal ended up being the game-winner.
