NHL official Wes McCauley is back at it with his emphatic rulings.
In last night’s hotly-contested matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and Detroit Red Wings, Martin Frk appeared to cross the blue line before receiving a pass, scoring on the ensuing play.
Were the Red Wings offside? McCauley delivered the verdict in dramatic fashion.

“After reviewing the play, it was determined that the play was offside,” McCauley said. “Therefore we have… NO GOAL!”

The clarity and intonation in his voice. The pause before the final announcement. The pinpoint accuracy and steadiness of his arms. McCauley has a gift.
Despite the waived-off goal, the Red Wings went on to win the game in a shootout 3-2.
With the addition of the Coach’s Challenge during the 2015-16 season, most people were left questioning what did and didn’t qualify as offside or goaltender interference.
But McCauley provides a glimmer of hope, offering drama to an otherwise dull three-minute interlude in the game.
Wes McCauley: a man of the people.
