The Stanley Cup is making its way to Capitol Hill.

Friday afternoon, DC Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton announced she will be hosting a Stanley Cup viewing in her office at the Rayburn House building from 10-11am on October 17. Capitals fans can start lining up at her office beginning at 9:30.

Holmes Norton posted a press release about the Cup’s visit on her website.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will host the Stanley Cup in her congressional office on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., in 2136 Rayburn House Office Building (First Floor). Fans can arrive at Norton’s office beginning at 9:30 a.m. and will be admitted in groups of four. Norton introduced a resolution congratulating the Washington Capitals for winning the 2018 Stanley Cup, the first championship in team history.

“The Stanley Cup has traveled around the world since the Caps’ epic victory in June, and it is time we welcomed the Cup to Capitol Hill,” Norton said. “I am really pleased that the Cup is coming to Capitol Hill. Having the Cup in the House, where every jurisdiction has a representative, will send the message that our local team has won a national championship. That is good for D.C. statehood too! We invite fans to visit our office to take the unique opportunity to see the trophy up close.”

The Caps Stanley Cup victory is the first major four DC sports championship since the Washington Redskins won the Super Bowl in 1991. DC United have won the MLS Cup four times, most recently in 2004.

With the victory, Holmes Norton won a friendly wager against Nevada representative Dina Titus, where she had to wear a DC statehood t-shirt and gifted Holmes Norton a gift basket filled with Las Vegas goodies.

Holmes Norton is up for reelection on November 6 to serve her 15th term as DC’s house representative.
