Golden Knights goalie Oscar Dansk’s new mask pays tribute to the 58 lives lost in Vegas shooting

On October 1, 2017, tragedy rocked Las Vegas when 58 people were killed in a devastating shooting. The Golden Knights paid tribute to those victims during their opening night pregame ceremony, rallying behind the #VegasStrong mantra that would follow them through the season and all the way to the Stanley Cup Final.

Now, goaltender Oscar Dansk has continued that tribute with the mask that he is debuting for the 2018-19 season. Designed by Dave Gunnarsson, the mask features 58 Golden Knights logos, representing each of the lives lost, painted across the top. It also has “Vegas Strong” emblazoned on the front.

“Oscar had a beautiful idea for his new mask,” Gunnarson wrote on his Instagram post. “He wanted the mask to be painted as a tribute to all the victims at last years attack in Las Vegas. A Vegas Golden Knight helmet is created on the mask for each and every of the 58 victims. All helmets are placed on the top of the mask, closest to heaven.”

“And of course the Vegas Strong logo is also a part of the design,” Gunnarsson added. “Just as usual I really love to work with the details. Thanks Oscar, it was a true honor to create this painting for you.”
