Nicklas Backstrom receives Stanley cup at Gavle home overlooking Baltic Sea

After spending a week in Canada, the Stanley Cup has returned to the continent of Europe.

After making stops for the first time in Lars Eller’s native Denmark and Andre Burakovsky’s hometown of Malmo, Sweden, the NHL’s championship trophy is now in the loving arms of Nicklas Backstrom, who evidently cannot stop smiling this summer.

Backstrom hosted a family party at his Gavle home, which according to the Capitals, overlooks the Baltic Sea.

Backstrom invited Capitals rookie defenseman Christian Djoos and his girlfriend Ebba Ostlund to the get-together. The young Swede played a pivotal role down the stretch for the Capitals in the playoffs once he was re-inserted into the lineup.

It just looks like a wonderful and relaxing time.

Much more Swedish fun with the Stanley Cup awaits this weekend. Sunday, Backstrom is hosting an event at Nickback Arena, his childhood ice rink in Gavle named after him.
