On Wednesday, two days after their historic second round win over the Penguins, the Capitals returned to Kettler Capitals Iceplex to prepare to face Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference Final.
Following practice, Alex Ovechkin met with the media, to discuss what the win meant. It was clear that the Capitals captain was in high spirits, as he got a little playful when answering questions — specifically about Tom Wilson.

Wilson, who missed three games due to a suspension for a high head hit on the Penguins’ Zach Aston-Reese, will return to the lineup for Game One on Friday. Ovechkin was asked by a reporter about the smile he had, when talking about Wilson’s return, which was when the Russian machine decided to have a little fun.
“She was smiling, too. She was excited about it. I was excited as well,” Ovechkin said, with a wide grin and a laugh. “You probably like him, huh? Yeaahhhhhhh. Okay, okay. You are not the first girl. It’s fine.”
The moment was taken in good humor by all of the media in attendance. Ovechkin’s playful mood seemed to have spilled over from Monday night, judging by his locker room celebration.
The teasing moment in his interview felt like a return to how Ovechkin expressed himself during his early days in the league. Seeing the Capitals captain this happy has been contagious, and we hope it continues.
