Tom Wilson has a habit of angering anyone associated with the city of Pittsburgh and that habit was on full display in DC Sunday night. During the second period of Game Two, Wilson made contact with the head of Pens defenseman Brian Dumoulin. The hit knocked a woozy Dumoulin out of the game.

Further drawing the ire of Pens fans everywhere, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety ruled that Wilson would not be receiving a hearing for the head contact.

At the Penguins skate Tuesday morning, head coach Mike Sullivan was asked quite the interesting question by a member of the hockey media.

The question was, “Mike, we hear a lot of fans who want to see Tom Wilson run tonight. How do you handle that situation today? Any retribution?”

Sullivan paused and looked stunned at the reporter for nine seconds before answering.

“We’re just going to play the game,” Sullivan said. “Our number one focus is to win the hockey game. We’re looking at one game. We’re going to try go play the game that gives us a best chance to win.”

One can only assume that this is a member of the Pittsburgh media considering the use of “we” when referring to the type of feedback said media outlet got regarding Wilson after Game Two. To that unnamed member of the media, this is one of the strangest questions I think have seen asked at a hockey-related press conference.

First, in what world does this person believe that Mike Sullivan would just come out and say, “Hey, Department of Player Safety, we’re going to run Wilson tonight and try to inflict injury upon him!” Secondly, Sullivan likely does not give a rat’s behind what his cretin fans think he should tell his team to do.
