The German netminder, the Capitals backup entering the 2017-18 campaign, wrested the starting position from Braden Holtby after the Vezina Trophy winner struggled in the second half of the season.
Grubauer has put up incredible numbers in his short time starting. And fans have taken notice. During home games, fans now chant GRUUUUUUU after big saves. They’re super-imposing his face over Jesus paintings because Grubi Saves!
Perhaps he is the hot goalie the Capitals need to go deep into the playoffs this season. Fingers crossed.
Good luck, Grubi. You earned it.
