For those of you, like GMBM and RMNB’s Peter Hassett, who wanted the Capitals to play the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round, I have some sad news to report.
The Pittsburgh Penguins romped the Ottawa Senators 4-0 Friday night, clinching second place in the Metropolitan Division.
During the game, Sidney Crosby scored from behind the goal line.
And Jason Smith spoke Russian to Evgeni Malkin.
Earlier in the day, Brian MacLellan told reporters that he was “all right” with a first-round match-up against the Pens.
“I’m all right with whoever we have,” MacLellan said. “I think our fans would have a little conniption.”
Instead, that conniption will have to wait until the second round if the Capitals can beat either Philadelphia, Columbus, New Jersey, or Florida.
We’ll likely know their first-round opponent late Saturday night, for sure.
RMNB is not associated with the Washington Capitals; Monumental Sports, the NHL, or its properties. Not even a little bit.
