The Washington Capitals just clinched a spot in the 2018 postseason in the most bizarre way.

Sidney Crosby scored the overtime game-winning goal to push the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 4-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils. A Penguins victory was one of three different ways the Caps could clench a berth in the playoffs tonight.

The Penguins win gives the Capitals an X in the Eastern Conference standings and will allow them to compete for the Stanley Cup for the fourth straight season.

Let’s celebrate.

The Capitals have won nine of the last ten games and have 99 standings points. They lead the Penguins in the Metropolitan Division by five points with five games remaining.
