The Washington Capitals just clinched a spot in the 2018 postseason in the most bizarre way.
Sidney Crosby scored the overtime game-winning goal to push the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 4-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils. A Penguins victory was one of three different ways the Caps could clench a berth in the playoffs tonight.

The Penguins win gives the Capitals an X in the Eastern Conference standings and will allow them to compete for the Stanley Cup for the fourth straight season.
