35 games into the year, Tom Wilson already has as many assists as he did last season

After the Capitals went approximately 800 years between goals, #TopLineTom may be no more, but Tom Wilson kept Tom Wilson’ing from the third line Thursday night against Boston.

During the third period of the Caps’ 4-3 shootout win over the Bruins, Wilson tallied an unlikely assist on the game-tying goal. It was both ugly and beautiful at the same time.

At first it looked like Tom scored, but it was just that ugly of a play. No one could tell because the Caps forward was causing so much mayhem in front of the crease.

Wilson earned the assist after deflecting a Lars Eller shot on net.

Connolly would capture the rebound and knock the puck off a Bruins defender’s skate and in.

Wilson, who is averaging just under half a point per game, now has 17 points. Last night, Wilson tallied his 12th assist, which matches his apple total from all of last year. The Caps forward did that in 47 fewer games.

If Barry Trotz is smart, Wilson should return to the first line for Saturday night’s game against the Devils. The Ovechkin-Backstrom-Wilson line has been dominant together in just under 200 even strength minutes.
