Your Washington Capitals finished up a stretch of four games in six nights with a matchup against the visiting Anaheim Ducks. Goaltender John Gibson has carried the Ducks through this first portion of the season and he starred in this one too.
Derek Grant has two first names and one first period goal against the Caps. After twenty minutes the visitors held a one-goal lead. Jakob Silfverberg doubled the lead with a deflection on the man advantage. In the third, Nicklas Backstrom got the Caps on the board and Evgeny Kuznetsov tied the game.
Then, in overtime, Alex Ovechkin won the whole dang thing.
Caps beat Ducks 3-2!
- Stick taps to Devante Smith-Pelly who played in his 300th NHL game. Surprisingly, that’s 300 more games than I have played in the NHL.
- Tom Wilson missed a wide open net and then fought noted super man puncher Kevin Bieksa seconds later. Luckily for Tom, Vince McMahon wasn’t in DC to make sure that Bieksa went over.
- Cara’s reaction to this graphic was, “I cant believe they signed all those guys for four dollars.” I found this hilarious. What are your thoughts on it?
- Peter took another swing at said graphic in his post that I think is a must read because it’s Peter writing. So read it, it’s an early nominee for RMNB post of the year.
- Ice looked pretty garbage in my eyes and Brooks Orpik wasn’t afraid to point that out in his first intermission interview. The game started an hour later due to a Georgetown basketball game earlier in the day that ended up going to overtime. There’s your culprit.
- Goalie fight! Caps prospect and current Hershey Bear, Pheonix Copley got into a scuffle with Jordan Binnington of the Providence Bruins.
- John Gibson made about 400 unreal saves, making an effort worthy of a shut out through forty minutes, but could not survive the Caps third period push.

- First line was terrific. So was Christian Djoos. Nothing to worry about considering those four.
- I have no idea how the Caps ended up with zero power plays in this game. I spotted multiple potential Anaheim fouls.
- That #8 guy is pretty great.
