Capitals forward Chandler Stephenson has been one of the nicest surprises of the season, tallying six points in 18 games this season. But Saturday against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the 23-year-old forward was unable to finish the game.

Stephenson took the final shift of the second period (38 seconds), but would not return for the final stanza.

The Capitals later announced in the third period that he suffered an upper-body injury.

After the game, Caps head coach Barry Trotz did not reveal the nature of the injury, but said the forward will be evaluated tommorrow. Trotz said Stephenson’s ailment was “day-to-day.”

The only questionable play we could find was during the first period when Stephenson was cross-checked into the boards by Seth Jones, causing Stephenson’s head to hit the glass.

Stephenson was crunched along the boards, but would go on to take seven more shifts before leaving the game.

In total, Stephenson had 9:44 of ice time.
