The Capitals traveled to the newly opened Little Caesar’s Arena, “The Pie” if you’re RMNB’s Pat Holden, to play the Detroit Red Wings. Mike Green and company came into the game on a losing streak just like the Caps. I deem this the battle of the early season losing streaks. Only one streak shall last.
The teams started the night with some failed power play opportunities and good goaltending. We were scoreless through twenty.
Darren Helm opened scoring with a shorthanded marker early in the second. Andre Burakovsky heard your complaints; he knotted this one back up at one. 1-1 after two periods.
Jay Beagle scored shorthanded in his 400th career NHL game. That’s a lot of games. Congrats, Jay. Tomas Tatar spoiled things with a ridiculous tip-in to tie the game at two and then scored again to give the Red Wings a 3-2 lead. Timothy Jimothy Oshbabe tied this bad boy up at three late to force OT, then Ovechkin won it in overtime!
Caps beat Red Wings 4-3 in overtime!
