The Washington Capitals are visiting Little Caesars Arena for the first time to not just play the Detroit Red Wings, but to celebrate Jay Beagle‘s 400th game. It’s cute because he loved the Red Wings growing up. Why? His answer was simply, “Steve Yzerman”. Join me in celebrating not “#FriYay” but instead, “#FriJay”.
As for analysis of the actual game, both the Capitals and the Red Wings have lost two games in a row and hope to put an end to, what could be a larger losing streak tonight. Some hope for the Capitals this evening includes the fact that the team is 12-4-3 against the Red Wings since the Wings last won the Stanley Cup in 2008. Braden Holtby is 8-2-1 in his career against the Red Wings with a .929 save percentage. Here’s hoping the positive trend continues tonight.
The game is on at 7:30 PM. Once it’s all done, you’ll have a recap from none other than our extraordinary son, Christopher from the comments.

What is Today
Listen, I wrote an entire pregame. It had bad jokes, witty quips, and everything else I like to think I’m good at but am probably not. The only problem was that it was a pregame for the Washington Capitals to play the New Jersey Devils. The New Jersey Devils are not the same as the Detroit Red Wings. Maybe it was because I had too much espresso or maybe I have eye problems and I got their logos mixed up, but at any rate I’m having a Friday that feels more like Monday morning.
I am clearly not the only one with this feeling because the Washington Capitals twitter account posted photos of Christian Djoos, Nick Backstrom, and TJ Oshie at this morning’s skate with the hashtag #CapsLeafs. The Maple Leafs are also not the Detroit Red Wings. Either the person running the Capitals twitter account is having a weird day like me, or the Detroit Red Wings are just that forgettable.
Storylines
- Did you listen to our recent podcast? You probably should because it’s with the illustrious @NHLHistoryGirl.
- Justin Williams scored his first goal since leaving the Capitals and I am extremely emotional about it so we need to stop talking about it.
- Top line Tommy is back at it.
- Brooks Laich has signed with the Los Angeles Kings. While I’m glad Brooks is getting another shot, I’m mainly thrilled that this might take away from his instagramming.
- This is genuinely one of the saddest things I’ve seen, but Michael Del Zotto made a little kid cry. Don’t worry he made up for it.
- Wanna win a signed TJ Oshie stick and support a really wonderful cause? You can!
- Tom Wilson, DSP, and Jakub Vrana got to take in the ‘zards home opener. The Wizards won and I just want it on record that I’m the conductor on the #JohnWall4MVP train, so all aboard.
- Alex Ovechkin is a weirdo, but he is our weirdo and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
- The Capitals got to participate in some FBI training. Lots of funny playoffs “choking” jokes that you’ve probably never heard before!!
Connor McDavid
If Connor McDavid isn’t careful, I might have to buy an Oilers jersey with his name on it. And the color orange is TERRIBLE on me. Take a look at a beaut he assisted last night against the gross Chicago Blackhawks.

If you’re like me and are slowly becoming a big McDavid fan, keep your eyes peeled for his feature in GQ:
