The Nashville Predators made the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in franchise history last season. Landing a ticket to one of the three Cup Final games at Bridgestone Arena was a very expensive and nearly impossible task. But one Preds fan, Andrew Fudge, hit the lotto and won free tickets.
Except this story does not have a happy ending.

Fudge used his Twitter account all throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs to enter contests and win free tickets. On June 8th, the Predators slid into the direct messages of Fudge, notifying him that he won two tickets to Game Six of the Stanley Cup Final.
@NHL can I go die now… just now found this since I don't check twitter often. pic.twitter.com/nfhmdvYkqG

39 days later, Fudge checked Twitter, only to see that he blew his chance of a lifetime.
Naturally, he took this well.
No. Neither can my wife.

Later in the day, the Preds got wind of the sad story and tweeted Fudge a pair of emoji.
☹️😥

Here’s the thing. While he may feel like a stupid idiot right now, Fudge may have the last laugh. The Penguins won Game Six, celebrating their championship win on Nashville’s home ice. And who wants to see that?
Plus, because of this, uh, fudge up, Fudge is a household name. Deadspin, ESPN, and Yahoo all wrote articles detailing Fudge’s misery. His name, Andrew Fudge, was even trending in Canada.

I would also put money on the Preds doing something awesome to make it up to him too.
While that’s all cool, this is a reminder to everyone: always check your Twitter DMs. You never know who will slide into them.
