Over the last several days, love has been in the air. On Saturday there was competing weddings as Alex Ovechkin got married to Nastya Shubskaya and former Capitals forward Brooks Laich tied the knot with Julianne Hough. Tuesday, the lovebug struck former Capitals defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk who proposed to longtime girlfriend Deanna Abbey.
Shattenkirk went down to one knee and asked for Deanna’s hand in marriage at the Barcelona Cathedral. The couple was in Europe for Alexander Steen’s wedding, which was held in Sweden.
Thus far, four Capitals-related commenters caught our eye.
Tom Wilson gave Kevin some pant-cleaning advice.
Lauren Oshie was happy.
Mandy Alzner believed this couple would tie the knot eventually.
And Devante Smith-Pelly, who is in the running for a roster spot next season, made a pun on Shatty’s last name.
Deanna also posted video of the proposal.
Shattenkirk is in the afterglow of a four-year, $26.6 million contract that he signed with his hometown New York Rangers, making him the 13th highest-paid defensemen in the league.
Congratulations, Kevin and Deanna. We wish you nothing but love and happiness in the future.
(Except whenever you play the Capitals.)
