Hockey fans had Saturday, April 29 circled on their calendar for watch Game Two of the Penguins-Capitals playoff series. Unfortunately, the game overlaps with Gonzaga College High School’s prom, posing quite the dilemma for some students.
But eighteen-year-old senior Will Jervey found the perfect way to celebrate both.

“I ordered a Deadguins shirt three days ago. I got it in the mail today and I was so hyped,” Will said. “I needed an undershirt, so because of Game Two, I just decided to wear that under my tuxedo shirt. If the Caps win tonight, I’m going to take that off and wear the Deadguins shirt around prom.”
While Will’s tribute was fantastic, there was one tiny problem. Will’s tuxedo shirt is white and the Deadguins shirt is black, causing a bit of a fashion faux pas.
“It’s a black shirt so you can easily see the graphic through my button-down shirt,” Will said. “That’s obviously not ideal, but when people have commented on my social media and I’ve told them which shirt it is, they think it’s hilarious. Me and my friend are actually planning on live streaming the game or listening to the audio during the actual dance.”
Will’s love for hockey and the Capitals runs deep. His family splits season tickets with two other families in section 109, right behind the Ovi spot. Will has played hockey since he was five-years-old.
“The Caps have always been a part of my life,” he said.
Will’s date, Cate C., was surprised when she first saw Will’s tribute. In the end, however, she was supportive.
“Cate is a Caps fan,” Will said. “She loved it.”
