A game after Dmitry Orlov “got” in his first NHL fight, Justin Williams dropped the gloves with Flyers forward and local village idiot Nick Cousins.
Except it wasn’t much of a fight because Cousins fell over.
The whole melee began after Kevin Shattenkirk landed a giant hit on Cousins in the corner. Flyers defenseman Brandon Manning crosschecked Shattenkirk twice before Williams skated over said Nuh uh, no more of that. Cousins grabbed Williams. Williams grabbed Cousins and away we go!
Williams landed a huge uppercut. And then the fight was over. Cousins fell over or turtled or lost his balance. Only he knows for sure.
Cousins and Williams taunted each other on the way to the box. Cousins yelled “let’s go” multiple times to Williams despite not appearing to want to fight during the actual fight.
The jawing continued in the penalty box.
The most bizarre part of this melee was that Williams received a double minor for roughing while Cousins would only sit two minutes. I don’t know how both guys don’t get five for fighting or two for roughing, but whatever, I’m done trying to understand NHL officiating.
