AHL suspends Brandon Manning five games for using racist slur

Brandon Manning of the Bakersfield Condors (Edmonton Oilers affiliate) used a racist slur towards Ontario Reign winger Bokandji Imama (LA Kings affiliate) on Monday. Manning was given a game misconduct at the time “under the provisions of AHL Rule 23.9 for use of a racial slur towards an opponent.”

The American Hockey League suspended Manning for five games in addition to the game misconduct. Manning will miss Bakersfield’s games Wednesday (Jan. 22) vs. San Jose, Friday (Jan. 24) at Tucson, Saturday (Jan. 25) at Tucson, Jan. 31 vs. Ontario, and Feb. 1 at Stockton.

Justin Williams sticks up for Kevin Shattenkirk, lands uppercut on Nick Cousins

A game after Dmitry Orlov “got” in his first NHL fight, Justin Williams dropped the gloves with Flyers forward and local village idiot Nick Cousins.

Except it wasn’t much of a fight because Cousins fell over.

Two Flyers attempt to bodycheck Tom Wilson, fail miserably (GIFs)

The Flyers and Capitals hate each other. So of course there were some big hits during rivalry night.

Take for instance this crushing hit involving Tom Wilson during the second period. Two Flyers players, Taylor Leier and Brandon Manning, tried to vaporize Willy Baby along the boards at the same moment.

Except they crumpled to the ice instead.

Tom Wilson Was Checked in the Head by Brandon Manning

Late in the third period, Capitals forward Tom Wilson got checked in the head by Flyers defenseman Brandon Manning. As Wilson turned back to retrieve a Jason Chimera pass in the offensive zone, Manning hit Wilson in the head and shoulder with his left arm.
