On Monday, the Washington Capitals surprised the hockey world by landing Kevin Shattenkirk, the most prominent rental available. Shattenkirk is a top-pairing defenseman and one of the most prolific offensive defenseman in the league. He also has the world’s most adorable cocker spaniel.
But our favorite part of Shatty is his Twitter account, @ShattDeuces.
On Thursday, The Washington Post’s Isabelle Khurshudyan got her hands dirty and revealed the Important Story behind Shattenkirk’s Twitter handle, which was supposed to be an ode to his nickname and his number 22. He did not realize there was a double meaning.
“He had it before I knew him,” Oshie said. “It’s obviously pretty comical. That’s kind of the type of guy he is. He’s a jokester. He’s a guy that kind of makes everyone laugh. Maybe early it’s going to be hard for him to do that, but definitely he fits in really well here.”
“It’s just become my new nickname, my new persona,” Shattenkirk said. “I’m sure it’ll catch on here, and I’m sure Osh will be making sure all of the guys are using it.”
To help this nickname catch on, we are debuting a new shirt, which we think is pretty shattacular.
What are you waiting for? It’s time to Rock the Shat!
