Winner winner chicken dinner: Caps beat Islanders 4-2

The first period got off to a scary beginning when Islanders center Casey Cizikas left after his arm was stepped on and sliced open by a teammate. Luckily, Cizikas was patched up and returned to the game towards the end of the first, but not before Brock Nelson put a puck past Holtby. The period would end with a score of 1-0.

Second period begins and only 2 minutes in, Brett Connolly sinks one in with the help of Lars Eller to tie the game. The Caps would then take the lead over the Islanders after Justin Williams scores off an assist from Jakub Vrana. The Islanders quickly answered with a goal from Nikolay Kulemin and the period ended at 2-2.

FINALLY, the third period begins with the hope that maybe, just maybe this one won’t go to overtime or to a shootout. Niskanen answers our prayers with a gorgeous wrist shot, his first of the season. In the final three minutes of the game, the Caps were granted a power play and Niskanen made extra sure this game wasn’t going into overtime and scored one more.
