We’ll find out later today what the name and logo will be for the NHL’s new team in Las Vegas. But we already know who one NHL analyst believes the team will take in the expansion draft next spring.
TSN analyst Craig Button shared his draft predictions today, and former Caps and current Preds beat writer Adam Vingan was kind enough to post a screenshot on Twitter. Button believes the Vegas team will take defenseman Dmitry Orlov from the Caps.

According to the rules of the expansion draft, the Capitals can protect seven forwards, three defensemen, and one goaltender, and Pat argued back in June that they should protect Orlov.
One thing Pat said back then is worth repeating: “The only tough decision for me came down to Dmitry Orlov vs. Karl Alzner. The Caps are likely to lose whichever of these two they leave unprotected and there’s really no good option here. The loss of either player will be a tough pill to swallow.”
So prepare yourselves.
Also of note on Button’s draft prediction: Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, Winnipeg Jets forward (and former Capitals forward) Mathieu Perreault, and Detroit Red Wings forward Anthony Mantha, whose name makes me think of the Bantha from Star Wars.
