Alex Ovechkin’s sore ‘somewhere on his body’ after being tripped by Kris Letang

In the second period, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin left the game after being tripped to the ice by Penguins defenseman Kris Letang. The injury was the only buzzkill of the evening in which the Capitals scored a touchdown (plus an extra point) against their biggest rival.

Several minutes later, Ovechkin would return and go out for a shift with the Capitals power play. In the third period, the Russian machine scored his eighth goal of the season.

After the game, Barry Trotz commented briefly on the injury.

So to be clear: Ovi’s sore “somewhere on his body.”

Ovi also added this nugget.

If we take a close look at the replays, the injury occurred when Ovechkin, cutting to the middle of the ice, gets clipped by Letang around his left knee and arm.

When Ovechkin gets up however, he appears to favor his right wrist.

But since Ovi’s made of Soviet era plutonium and steel, he returned to the game.

The Capitals have the day off Thursday so Ovechkin will get ample time to heal his body injury. Hopefully, he’ll be ready for Friday’s morning skate.
