Tuesday afternoon the Capitals announced a multitude of events starting Saturday, October 8, leading up to Opening Night on Saturday October 15.
Events include an equipment sale, Kids Club pumpkin picking, and a viewing party for the season opener vs. Pittsburgh on October 13. The events culminate in a red carpet entrance by the players at the Capitals home opener on October 15.

Capitals Announce Initiatives Leading Up to Home Opener, Highlighted by #RockTheRed Carpet on Oct. 15
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals announced today several initiatives planned for the week of Monday, Oct. 8, through Saturday, Oct. 15, in advance of the team’s regular-season home opener on Oct. 15:
#RockTheRed Carpet
The Washington Capitals will launch their 2016-17 regular-season home opener on Saturday, Oct. 15, with a special red carpet event, presented by GEICO, on F Street in front of Verizon Center from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The Capitals host the New York Islanders at 7 p.m. that evening.
The Capitals 2016-17 team will begin arriving in cars provided by Lexus on F Street, between 6th and 7th street NW, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Capitals PA announcer Wes Johnson will serve as the master of ceremonies and will introduce players as they are escorted by preselected fans down the red carpet. Upon arrival players will greet fans and pose for pictures.
The event is free and open to the public; game tickets are not required to attend the red carpet arrivals. A live DJ will be on-site to entertain fans, in addition to appearances by Caps mascot Slapshot and Red Rockers.
The red carpet arrivals will be broadcast live stream on CSNMidAtlantic.com, while Saturday’s game will be broadcast on CSN and can be heard on the Capitals Radio Network.
Stick and Skate Sale
The week will begin as Capitals fans are invited to attend the first 2016-17 practice featuring the final roster at Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. A preseason stick and skate sale featuring game-used and locker room equipment, excluding all apparel, will take place on the Kettler Mezzanine from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The sale is open to the public for the entire duration of the skate.
Caps Kids Club Pumpkin Picking Surprise
Caps Kids Club presented by Giant will host the Capitals Pumpkin Picking Surprise at Butler’s Orchard in Germantown, Md., from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10. Kids club members will have the opportunity to roam the twisted corn maze to find and redeem red pumpkins for a variety of prizes including Capitals autographed items and tickets to an upcoming 2016-17 Washington Capitals game.
The first 100 kids club members to arrive at the event will receive a complimentary entrance fee to the Orchard (valued at $12, offer valid for members only. Parents and siblings not included).

Caps Letters
On Tuesday, Oct. 11, and Wednesday, Oct. 12, enlarged individual letters spelling “Capitals” will be placed at different locations throughout the Washington, D.C., region. Fans are invited to take photos at the letters with Red Rockers and mascot Slapshot. Locations will be through the team’s official Twitter account, @Capitals.
Season Opener Viewing Party
Fans can kick-off the 2016-17 Washington Capitals season, presented by Capital One Bank, at RFD in Washington, D.C. Join Slapshot, Red Rockers, and other Caps in-game talent to watch the Caps take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, Oct. 13. The viewing party starts at 7 p.m., with drink and food specials lasting throughout the game and raffles during intermissions.
#RockTheRedHunt
Capitals fans are invited to participate in a playoffs #RockTheRed Hunt. Starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, enlarged individual letters spelling “Capitals” will be hidden at different locations throughout the Washington, D.C., region. Location clues will be released each hour until 4 p.m. through the team’s official Twitter account, @Capitals.
Each Capitals fan who first locates an individual letter will receive two tickets to one of the first three home games of the 2016-17 Capitals season, presented by Capital One Bank. Participating fans are eligible to win only one letter’s pair of tickets.
